As soon as I saw the recruitment poster for Thunder City Derby Sirens, I said to myself, “Alright. Let’s make it happen.” I had never skated on quads before and didn’t know a single roller derby rule, but a switch had turned on in my chest and my brain was determined. Recruit Night told me everything I wanted to hear about the commitment, the friendship, the positivity and support, and best of all–the fun! I’ve only been a part of the team for a few months, but it has given me a happiness and fulfillment I never thought could exist. (3/18/22)
